‘The right place:’ Torontonians find space and affordability in Niagara

Their two-bedroom Toronto condo felt spacious, but when COVID-19 restrictions drove them inside, Jaden Kim and Angelica Lentoni started to long for more space.

“We started to crave a more genuine lifestyle, having our space, even more contact with nature,” said Lentoni. “And even more space for our daughter to be outside.”

Kim, finance manager for Four Seasons Hotels, said once it became clear he would be working from home long term, he and Lentoni began to consider moving to Niagara, a place they have always enjoyed visiting, eventually purchasing a four-bedroom home in Fonthill.

And they’re not the only ones. Andrew Perrie, who runs the Fine Estates team with Revel Realty, said 80 per cent of his clients this year have been families who want to leave Toronto and the GTA for Niagara. Many of them are like Kim and Lentoni, looking for more space and a small-town feel.

“(In Pelham), you have accessibility, you have amenities, you have a country laid-back feel and strong Wi-Fi,” he said.

That was the catalyst for Kim and Lentoni. They said they’re happier now, with easy access to nature and a backyard for their three-year-old daughter, Jadeangel. And that extra bedroom is now an office where Lentoni can spend time developing her makeup and skin care company, Glownique, and Kim can work on his own entrepreneurial goals.
