FedDev Ontario has announced a contribution of $14 million to expand the Southern Ontario Network for Advanced Manufacturing Innovation (SONAMI). The SONAMI partnership of seven post-secondary institutions is led by Niagara College, and pools the resources and expertise of its members to match them to the needs of smaller manufacturers.

The funding for SONAMI aims to help expand their partnership outside of the Niagara Region and give businesses wider expertise in different sectors. This enables businesses to adopt innovative technologies into their operations to increase productivity, to grow and diversify their business into different markets, and to become more competitive.

The project intends to assist 240 new businesses as they work to commercialize up to 240 products. They also plan to create and maintain 552 new permanent jobs and provide training to another 360 students and researchers.
