St. Catharines to receive more than $7-million in emergency COVID-19 aid

A multi-million dollar cash injection from the provincial and federal governments to help St. Catharines recover from COVID-19 will go a long way to helping this year’s budget, but city officials say there are still major challenges going forward.

The province, in partnership with the federal government, is giving St. Catharines $3.6 million in municipal funding and $3.8 milllion in transit funding. The influx is part of $1.6 billion of first round emergency funding for Ontario municipalities under the Safe Restart Agreement.

Mayors across the province, including St. Catharines Mayor Walter Sendzik, had been urging the upper levels to tell them how much aid they could expect with budget season starting in the next couple of weeks.
