The City of Welland doesn’t have a dollar figure to attach to the economic impact of the recent world canoe polo championships, but the tournament definitely made a positive mark on the business community.
Richard Dalton, the city’s manager of recreation and culture, said the success of the event is determined by the fact that 1,000 people were staying in hotel rooms in various parts of Niagara and that an average of 1,500 individuals were at Welland International Flatwater Centre (WIFC) on each day of the competition, which came to an end on the weekend.
