Although COVID-19 has had a devastating impact on Niagara Falls’ tourism sector in 2020, officials are optimistic about the future.
“We are excited about the many projects across our properties that will continue to offer our players a world-class experience, the growth of the Mohegan Gaming and Entertainment enterprise across the globe, and the recently announced potential opportunities to expand legal-gaming offerings to include iGaming in the province of Ontario and single-sport wagering, should it become law,” said Niagara Casinos president Richard Taylor.
Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort and Casino Niagara have been closed since mid-March.
Taylor said the company does not have a confirmed re-opening date, nor an opening date for its new 5,000-seat entertainment centre, which was supposed to open in April.
He said the company continues to work with relevant stakeholders on its re-opening plans.
“With expansive casino properties, over 200,000 square feet of gaming floor at Fallsview Casino Resort, and over 95,000 square feet at Casino Niagara, we are focused on ensuring our reopening plans support the long-term sustainability of our business and that our health-and-safety protocols are based on science and medical evidence to support the health and safety of our workforce and customers.”
David Adames, chief executive officer of Niagara Parks Commission, said he is optimistic that 2021 will be “incrementally better” than 2020.
He said the agency looks forward to welcoming more Canadians and Ontarians to its properties, pointing to a tax credit for Ontarians travelling in 2021, which was recently announced by the provincial government.
