The province is spending $2 million to help a Beamsville manufacturer that makes sanitizer dispensers expand its facilities.
OPHARDT Hygiene Technologies Inc. will receive $2 million from the provincial government through the Ontario Together Fund. The announcement was made Friday (Jan. 22) by Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade Vic Fedeli, who said it will help create and retain local jobs as well as shift production from overseas.
The minister said OPHARDT stood out from many of the different applications received for the Ontario Together Fund because it not only expanded local production for soap and sanitizer dispensers but created an opportunity to put out huge volumes of production.
“Companies like OPHARDT Hygiene are supporting our local supply chains and bringing their products to market quickly and safely so we can continue to fight the pandemic today and lay the foundation for Ontario’s recovery,” Fedeli said.
OPHARDT is also investing funds into the project that totals $7 million to expand the manufacturing of soap and hand sanitizer dispensers at its Beamsville site, creating 75 new jobs and retaining 96 positions as it helps generate products that are vital to fighting against the spread of COVID-19.
Since the start of the pandemic, the company has seen its workforce increase from 100 employees to 350.
“The demand is unprecedented, and so is the capital to meet that demand,” said Ken Friesen, general manager of OPHARDT Hygiene Canada. “The government reacted quickly with a program and executed the program quickly to allow us to be able to move forward with our platform.”
The global company is known for manufacturing dispensers, bottles and pumps for hand sanitizer and soap, as well as dispensers for paper towels and toilet paper.
