The city of St. Catharines has just opened a brand new 85-unit affordable housing facility which can house over 100 people, and is very beneficial for the most at-risk groups in the region. The state of the art facility is located at 527 Carlton Street and is the first affordable housing project in the city since 1977.
This project was fully publicly funded, with $12 million of the $15.7 million covered by the federal and provincial governments, and the remaining funds coming from the Niagara Region.
There is another affordable housing project at 111 Church Street that will be built in conjunction with a private company, Bethlehem Housing, and is targeted to open this fall.
