Technology has made an impact on every industry, and in Vineland, agriculture is no different. The automation of the greenhouse sector is now being financially backed by the federal government. The Federal Minister of Agriculture has announced $5 million dollars in funding to help develop new automation, artificial intelligence, and precision agriculture technology. The goal is to create greenhouses that can virtually run and maintain themselves.
Those who attended the funding announcement at the Vineland Research & Innovation Centre saw a glimpse of the bright future as a robot picked a cucumber, and sensors measured moisture levels in the air and soil, and proceeded to send the data to a smartphone.
