As a result, Canadian real estate experts at Wahi reviewed national statistics and made a concrete assessment of the safest cities in Canada for prospective homeowners — and Ontario scored big.
To do so, researchers looked at the Crime Severity Index via Statistics Canada to understand how each Canadian municipality differs in degrees of criminal activity and their corresponding trends.
According to Wahi, the safest municipalities in Canada are:
Barrie, Ontario Saguenay, Quebec Sherbrooke, Quebec Saint John, New Brunswick Quebec City, Quebec Ottawa, Ontario St. Catharines/Niagara, Ontario Guelph, Ontario Greater Toronto Area, Ontario Hamilton, Ontario Peterborough, Ontario Trois-Rivières, Quebec Gatineau, Quebec Montreal, Quebec Windsor, Ontario
When looking at the critical data when researching the safest cities in Canada, Wahi found that Ontario held over half (eight) of the top 15.
Beyond the Crime Severity Index, researchers at Wahi also took into account census data to get a better understanding about regional specifics, such as population and base income.
