Transport Canada has awarded Redrock Power Systems a $15,000 grant to look at the possibility of a zero-emission ferry service, that would run between Niagara and Toronto. Redrock is looking to build a 150 person ferry that would be able to run 9 months out of the year.
The funding for this study has come from the Clean Transportation System – Research and Development Program and is only awarded for projects looking to reduce air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. The Niagara-Toronto route is very important for both tourism and trade, as it connects the region to Canada’s largest city and one of the largest economies.With cost of living rising in the city of Toronto, the Niagara region has become an ideal area to move and live, but is also close enough to commute back and forth.
In order to meet the funding guidelines, this study must be officially completed by March 31, 2022.
