Niagara Region announces Domenic Ursini as new Director of Economic Development

Niagara Region is pleased to announce the appointment of Domenic Ursini as Director of Economic Development, effective July 30, 2018.

With more than a decade of progressive private sector experience supporting SME’s and entrepreneurs in the banking industry, Ursini brings expertise in the Niagara industrial sector, business development and project management to Niagara Region.

Ursini comes to the Region from the Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC), Canada’s only financial institution devoted exclusively to entrepreneurs, where he played a key role advising SME’s and larger corporations to develop new business opportunities for financing and developed financing strategies to enable business growth. Ursini previously worked as Manager, Small Business and Professional Banking at Scotiabank where he oversaw the development of the Small Business and Professional Banking Department to help businesses grow and improve their bottom line.

A well-respected advisor to Niagara business leaders, from 2016-2018 Ursini served as Chair of the Niagara Industrial Association, an industry-focused organization that serves as the leading voice and advocate of the industrial sector in Niagara, working to promote local industry and pursue collaborative business development opportunities with business and government partners. From 2003-2010 Ursini served as a Board Member of the Port Colborne Economic & Tourism Development Corporation and helped develop and implement Vision 20/20, the City’s community-based tourism strategy.

Ursini takes over from former Economic Development Director, David Oakes, and will utilize his strong network and private sector experience to work collaboratively with our local area municipalities and local stakeholders to enhance economic prosperity across the region.

I look forward to working alongside my colleagues both at Niagara Region and across Niagara to foster an environment of strong economic growth and prosperity that is measured by our results. Together with our partners, we will continue to build a strong collaboration with the business and corporate community to succeed in acquisition and retention of both new and existing enterprises.
