Federal MPs Vance Badawey and Chris Bittle have announced $60 million in federal funding for the tourism sector. It comes through the newly launched Canadian Experiences Fund through FedDev Ontario and focuses on five priority areas: tourism in rural and remote communities, indigenous tourism, winter and shoulder season tourism, inclusiveness, and culinary tourism.

The hope for this investment is to highlight the importance of promoting “hidden gem” attractions to visitors, while also continuing to promote mainstay attractions such as Niagara Falls.

The tourism sector is one of the largest for the region and brings in revenue around $2.4 billion. The federal government hope that the strategy can boost Canadian tourism revenues by 25 percent and create 54,000 new jobs by 2025.
